Part 1: How to download library books to kobo eReader without Adobe Digital Editions
Many Kobo eReaders have the OverDrive app built-in natively. For this kind of Kobo eReader, there is no need to transfer library books with Adobe Digital Editions.

Downloading library books with Kobo's built-in OverDrive feature is a convenient way to access and read eBooks from your local library. Here are the steps to download library books using Kobo's integrated OverDrive.
How to add library books to kobo eReader without Adobe Digital Editions
Step 1 Set up Overdrive on Kobo eReader.
Go to three dash(More icon) at the bottom ot the kobo screen, tap Settings>>OverDrive>>Get Started>>Sign in to OverDrive to find your library. Then you can borrow the books on your kobo eReader.
Step 2 Download library books to Kobo directly.
Once you've borrowed books from OverDrive, tap "My Books", then tap "Filter" to show more options, and tap "OverDrive" to show all your borrowed library books.
Now you can tap the book cover to download and read them.
Part 2. Steps to download library books to Kobo eReader with ADE
Since not all Kobo eReaders are with built-in OverDrvie app, especially older models like the Kobo Aura, Touch, or Glow, you cannot borrow and download library books within Kobo eReader. Instead, you will need to transfer library eBooks from a computer to a Kobo eReader using Adobe Digital Editions.
Step 1 Borrow books via Libby on your computer.
On a computer, go to libbyapp.com. Add your library and card. Then find the books you want to borrow and and borrow it.
Step 2 Download library books to your computer.
Go to "Shelf", find the books you borrowed, and "Read with..", click "Other options", and select "Epub or PDF" to download the library books.
Note: Most of the library books will be downloaded as .acsm file and are protected by Adobe DRM.
Step 3 Convert acsm to epub or pdf with Adobe Digital Editions.
Since the acsm file is not the real ebook, you need to convert acsm to pdf or epub with Adobe Digital Editions.
After converting ACSM files to ePub or PDF files using ADE, you can now connect your Kobo eReader to your computer, and your eReader should appear under "Devices." You may need to accept a file-transfer prompt on your eReader for it to appear in ADE.
Then right click "Kobo eReader">>"Authorize Device".
Click "Authorize Device" in the pop up window.
Now find your library book in ADE, and drag it to the Kobo eReader listed in the left bookshelf.
Now you can read your library books on kobo eReader even it has not built-in Overdrive.
