My Experience Using Epubor Ultimate on My M1 MacBook Pro
I’m using a M1 Apple MacBook Pro. Since the Secure Enclave is already built into the Apple silicon chip, there’s no separate T2 coprocessor — all its security functions are integrated into the M-series SoC.
I often convert various document formats into PDF or EPUB for research and private backup purposes. My work involves gathering documents from many sources, including Kindle books, depending on the project. However, I recently found that Kindle now restricts access in ways that make backing up files nearly impossible. I keep all my work local and private.
I tried several free methods to convert and back up my documents and purchased books, but none of them worked with Kindle. Eventually, I decided to purchase Epubor Ultimate, and it turned out to be the solution. After some initial troubleshooting and incredibly helpful support from the Epubor team, I got everything running smoothly — and I’m very happy with the results.
As far as I know, Epubor Ultimate is currently the only tool that can remove Kindle DRM on a Mac for private use. Though there are open-source solutions, they are more complicated to figure out. To get Epubor working, I first had to disable SIP (System Integrity Protection) following the steps outlined in Epubor’s “How to Remove DRM on Mac” guide. I think I did everything as the instructions described but still failed to remove kindle drm.
Here’s what I did. I contact the Epubor Support Team first and did what they told me step-by-step, Finally, I decrypt my kindle books on Mac with the latest Kindle for Mac App.
Step 1: Check SIP status
I opened Terminal and entered the command:
csrutil status
It showed disabled, so I knew SIP was turned off successfully.
If it shows "Enabled", you will need to follow the guide “How to Remove DRM on Mac” to disable SIP.
Step 2: Restart the Mac
Restarting the Mac was the key. I realized I had forgotten this step the first time — and that’s why it didn’t work earlier.
Step 3: Delete previously downloaded Kindle books
I deleted all Kindle books downloaded through the Kindle for Mac app (the latest version) to start fresh.
Step 4: Re-download Kindle books
Please ensure you download & install Epubor Ultimate on your computer.
With Epubor Ultimate running in the background, I re-downloaded my Kindle books.
Step 5: Remove Kindle drm DRM on Mac with Epubor Ultimate
Once the books finished downloading, I clicked the “Kindle” tab in Epubor Ultimate, then dragged the books to the right side. That’s when the magic happened — the word “Decrypted” appeared!
