Security flaws in the wifi standard were discovered. Many people installed router patches for it in the spring of 2021. One key change was the setting in a router for "protected management frames." By default, most routers had it set to use if supported by your device. This has been changed to "required." The older Kindle does not support PMF so cannot connect. The temporary fix is to change your router configuration to make PMF optional again. The only other choices are to replace your Kindle with one that supports PMF, or once their tech support figures it out, they may have a firmware update for your Kindle. Jim

Can't connect to wifi no matter what I do.
Useless right out of the new box!!!
I've read various "How to ..." guides on how to address this problem. They all begin "Make sure your device has the latest software version".
How the f*** are you supposed to update your software if you can not connect to your WiFi? Jeez. Stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid.
God almighty, does Amazon not employ anyone with a brain cell?
Does anyone have a solution which does not require my Paperwhite to have the latest software?
My software is 5.13.5. I understand the latest version is 5.13.6. Does that really matter?
I have connected my Paperwhite to my network many times in the past. That's how I downloaded all the books currently on my device.
So what has changed?
While I have a connection I thought I'd try updating the software, but the "Update your Kindle" option is still greyed out.
Any suggestions?
Thanks again.
You can try this:
- Download the latest software file to your computer
- Connect your kindle to your computer via USB
- Drag the file to your kindle
Then, go to your kindle and the update option should be available.
Recently had trouble connecting a Kindle to home Wifi after upgrading Xfinity gateway router. Kindle is prompted to sign in to Xfinity to authenticate. The problem is that the Kindle only has an "experimental" browser that is incompatible with the Xfinity website.
After trying various things, the fix was simple with a subtle difference from other suggestions we found on the web as follows:
1 - Turn off the Xfinity gateway router for 10 minutes (i.e., a reboot by pushing a button or a quick unplug, then immediate plug back in fails)
2 - Restart the Kindle by holding down the power on button until it reboots
The main takeaway here is that when you read "reboot" the router or gateway or whatever your Internet Service Provider (ISP) is calling it, be sure to unplug the router/gateway/whatever and leave it unplugged for an extended period of time. The technical support agent, a software robot or bot, at Xfinity suggested 10 minutes.
This process worked twice now so should be attempted either first or if no other process works.
Cheers!
I bought two of the Kindle Fire tablets. One is a 32 GB and one is 64 gb. The 32gb hooked up to my internet with no problem. When the 64gb arrived, I tried to set it up but it will not connect to my internet. I called my internet provider and my internet is working correctly. Can anyone tell me what I can do? The Kindle 64 is brand new and only allows me to pick my language then I pick my internet but when I put in the password, it just states its an error to hook up to the internet. I already bought one, sent it back for replacement and was sent another for replacement. It won't connect either. Any suggestions?

Help
I have a work around solution that may help users with this issue. I just changed broadband provider from Virgin Media to Vodafone and my household devices such as iPads, Laptops, PCs, Security Cams, Wi Fi Extenders etc all connected okay to the new Vodafone router seamlessly - and yes, you guessed it, my two Kindles (10th & 11th Generation) refused to connect. Both are updated to latest operating version.
My core issue then is with the Vodafone routers settings, as like everyone else here, I know my Wi Fi SSID and password works okay. I may(?) be able to resolve this router issue, once I start to look at that in depth in the advanced settings. (Or it may even not be possible to 'tweak' these settings to resolve).
For now, to connect my two Kindle's to Wi Fi, I have set up my mobile (Android) in 'Wi Fi Bridge' mode. That will share the Vodafone Wi Fi with connected devices (up to 4) and crucially, those devices (Kindle) will authenticate with my mobile and connect okay, and both did straight away. This way, they don't 'talk to' the Vodafone router to authenticate, and fail!. (You could also tether to your mobile). If I have to for the short/long term, I will set up a spare mobile (no sim needed) and keep that good to go to use in Wi Fi bridge mode when needed for the Kindle's.
This incompatibility issue with Amazon devices and some routers seems to be widespread from what I have read on various forums when troubleshooting my own Kindle issues. Anyway, hope work around solution helps some users in some way.
had the same problem as everybody here with my kindle oasis, latest edition (2020 I think)...wasn't able to connect to my home wifi from one day to the other...no new router or hardware, the same password...don't know what happened and couldn't figure out how to fix it...now I have to use my phone hotspot...this still works, hope it will stay this way...many tips here include connecting your kindle to your computer via USB cable...doesn't work for me...the kindle only charges and is otherwise unresponsive...my kindle tells me to eject it in order to use it while connected via USB...problem is, I can't eject it because although my laptop recognizes that there is a kindle connected, but it's grayed out, so I can't eject it...
I'd like to share my solution to the "incorrect password" problem in case it can help someone else:
My Kindle kept reporting "incorrect password" even though my smartTV, smartphone, laptop and tablet all connected using the same password.
I reasoned that the Kindle is getting it's information directly from the hub/router, so I investigated this and when I attempted to login to the hub, was given an "incorrect password" message.
Fortunately my hub/router (a Virgin Media Hub 3.0) had the supplier's default password printed on it's underside, so I successfully logged in with this, then changed the password back to what I had originally set it to, and everything worked perfectly, and the Kindle connected straight away.
Why all my other devices were still connecting with the original password I have no idea.
After many reboots and factory resets I checked my router.
DHCP had assigned 192.168.0.100 to the Kindle and that showed in the client list with the Kindles MAC address.
When I checked the IP and MAC Bindings, it showed the above IP address bound to a different MAC address.
I deleted that binding and it works find again.
