BookWalker is a popular digital platform for English and Japanese manga, light novels, and comics. However, the users are restricted to reading in their app or browser viewer. Even eBooks purchased on BookWalker cannot be downloaded as regular EPUB/PDF files, and they do not have any plans to make EPUB/PDF downloads available. It is very annoying for users who love reading books across multiple devices.
So how can I read your famous BookWalker manga on preferred devices like Kindle or Kobo, rather than being forced to use the restricted BookWalker app? Just keep reading, we'd like to share with you a useful trick!
Good update: For a long time, BookWalker only allowed users to download purchased ebooks for offline reading in the BookWalker app. Recently, BookWalker Global launched a new dedicated English website and app, and also adopted LCP DRM, offering users more freedom to read purchased content. That change really simplifies everything!
Method 1: Download BookWalker as LCP-protected EPUB
On the new BookWalker Global website, the books now use LCP, allowing readers to use other LCP-compatible apps rather than just the proprietary BookWalker app.
Step 1 Download BookWalker books via BookWalker web reader
Simply navigate to your bookshelf on the new BookWalker website, then open the book in the web reader, click the "3 dots" on the top-right menu, and select the "LCP-protected EPUB" button to download an .lcpl license file.
Note: While BookWalker offers manga, light novels, webtoons, and audiobooks, only manga can be downloaded as LCP-protected EPUB files.
The .lcp file does not contain the full book. To open and read the downloaded ebook, you must open the .lcpl file in a LCP-compatible reading app or eReader, such as the Thorium Reader.
Step 2 Export BookWalker as LCP-protected EPUB with Throium reader
Simply import the .lcpl file into the Thorium Reader, enter your passphrase, the book will open, and you can read it. In addition, you can also export the book as an EPUB file through Thorium reader app.
Note: Unfortunately, this EPUB file is encrypted by DRM and cannot be shared, copied, or used as a normal, unprotected EPUB file.
In fact, these encrypted EPUB files are limited to device and app compatibility; you cannot use them as you wish. To open and read the LCP-protected EPUB files, you must use third-party apps and e-readers that support the latest version of LCP Readium.
Method 2: Convert BookWalker to regular EPUB/PDF with Epubor BookWalker Mate
Although BookWalker allows users to download and read their purchased books on third-party, LCP-compatible applications, it's not as convenient as it seems. How can I convert BookWalker to a regular EPUB/PDF file?
Tool Recommendation: Epubor BookWalker Mate
Epubor BookWalker Mate is a great tool to help you do that. It is designed to convert your BookWalker manga into standard EPUB files, so you can easily back up your favorite books forever and read them on any device you prefer.
