Google play is a great place to download not only apps, games, but also a better store to download books, especially for those Android users. It has a collection of every kind of ebooks you could possibly think of, and sometimes it’s cheaper than Amazon Kindle store.

It’s very simple to read Google play books on your smartphones and tablets. But when you want to read the book on computers or ereaders, it will be little difficult, since what you get from Google Play store are acsm files. What is acsm file and how to convert it to epub or pdf? If you have these questions, don’t worry, here are several simple steps help you get the problem solved.

1. Download Books From Google Play

Step 1 Go to Google Play Books Store

First go to Google Play books store on your computer, and choose titles which you like, after payment, the title will be added to your account.

Step 3 Choose the title which you want to download

In My Books, find the title which you want to dowoload, and then click on three black dot button, select ePub or PDF formats to download the book. If you also want to read the book on eReaders, I suggest you download ePub format.

Note: If the title is DRM free, we will get an original ePub or PDF format book, and it's very easy to transfer it to eReaders with USB cable or calibre.

If the title is DRM protected, we will download an Urllink.acsm file, so we got more work to do, read below to know how to convert Google acsm file.

2. What is Google acsm file?

Acsm is the abbreviation of “Adobe Content Server Message”, it was created by Adobe to protect and distribute eBooks which is Epub or PDF format, so that you can’t copy and transfer eBooks to others. To do this, it contains Adobe drm(digital rights management) to activate and download an eBook but does not contain the eBook itself. It could only be opened by Adobe Digital Editions.

hello, I uploaded an epub file to play books awhile ago. Since I had it online, I deleted the original file from my computer. I would like to download the file again to use in another ereader, but when I go to the play books website and "my books" the only option I have for books I uploaded myself is to delete them. Is there any other way I can download my book from play books?

You can download personal books you upload to google play books via Google Takeout , but it takes some effort. So if you want to transfer ebooks to ereaders, I don't suggest to upload them to google play.

I dont understand how to purchase ebooks if I want the flexibility to save and read on different devices. I recently found books linked to an email account that I no longer use and am unable to transfer the purchase to my regular email address. I just happened to be logged into that email address at the time of purchase. If I purchase something I should be able to read how I want to. Help :)
