Recently, many people have asked me whether they can read Kindle books on Mac and how to do it. Answering these questions one by one takes quite a bit of time (though I’m always happy to help), so I’ve decided to write this detailed guide for you. In this article, I’ll show you three different ways to read Kindle books on Mac. If you’re using a PC instead, you can also check out these three methods to read Kindle books on PC.
Method 1: Read Kindle Books with Kindle for Mac app
You don't need a Kindle device to read Kindle books. Here is a free app from amazon store that you can use on your Mac. Access to Amazon.com to get free Kindle for Mac app. Then download and install it on the Mac.

The Kindle books you purchase from Amazon will automatically appear in Kindle for Mac through its sync function. Simply click any book cover, and the book will download automatically. Once finished, a check mark will appear. You can can click the book cover again to read your kindle books on Kindle for Mac.

This is the easiest way to read Kindle books on Mac. However, every coin has two sides. The limitation is that you can only read Kindle books within the Kindle app, not in iBooks. This is because the books are tied exclusively to the Amazon Kindle Store. You cannot transfer downloaded books to Kindle for Mac via iTunes; they can only be added through Send to Kindle. Even more disappointing, the app does not support reading EPUB books purchased from other eBook stores
Therefore, Method 2 or Method 3 might be your best option.
Method 2: Read Kindle Books on Mac with iBooks
EPUB is one of the most common eBook formats (alongside PDF) and is widely supported by most e-readers, including Mac computers. While there are many EPUB readers available for Mac, I highly recommend using the iBooks app. It is not only the native built-in reading app on Mac, but also one of the best reading experiences you can have on the platform.
Q: Can you simply find the downloaded Kindle books and transfer them to iBooks directly?
The answer is no. All Kindle books are protected with Kindle DRM, which means they can only be opened on Kindle-supported devices and apps, such as Kindle eReaders, the Kindle app, or Kindle Fire tablets. To read Kindle books in Apple Books, you must first remove the Kindle DRM and then transfer the files to iBooks.
