Can reMarkable read Kindle books? Not directly. reMarkable tablets do not support the Kindle app, and Kindle ebooks are not directly compatible with reMarkable. However, you can read Kindle books on reMarkable by converting a compatible Kindle book to a supported format such as EPUB or PDF and then transferring the converted file to your reMarkable device.
In this guide, we'll explain why you can't open Kindle books directly on reMarkable, how to convert Kindle books to EPUB or PDF with Epubor Ultimate, and how to transfer the converted books to your reMarkable 2 or other reMarkable paper tablet for reading and note-taking.
Part 1. Can You Read Kindle Books on reMarkable?
Can you read Kindle books on reMarkable? Yes, but not directly through the Kindle app. reMarkable does not support the Amazon Kindle app, and Kindle ebooks are not directly compatible with reMarkable. To read a Kindle book on reMarkable, you need a compatible, non-DRM-protected EPUB or PDF file that can be imported to the device.
reMarkable 2 and reMarkable Paper Pro are designed for reading, writing, and annotating documents and ebooks. They support common file formats such as EPUB and PDF, but Kindle books cannot simply be downloaded from your Amazon Kindle library and opened on reMarkable.
So, if you are wondering how to read Kindle books on reMarkable, the basic workflow is:
- Download the Kindle book to a supported computer.
- Convert the Kindle book to EPUB or PDF if necessary.
- Transfer the converted EPUB or PDF file to your reMarkable.
- Open the book on reMarkable and read or annotate it.
Does reMarkable have a Kindle app?
No. There is no official Kindle app for reMarkable tablets. You cannot sign in to your Amazon Kindle account on reMarkable and download books from your Kindle library in the same way you can on a Kindle e-reader, Kindle app, or supported computer.
What file formats does reMarkable support?
reMarkable supports EPUB for ebooks and PDF for documents and reading materials. You can import these files using the reMarkable desktop or mobile app, web app, or supported USB transfer methods.
However, the file format alone is not enough. EPUB or other ebooks protected by DRM cannot be opened directly on reMarkable. This is why a Kindle book that is protected by DRM cannot simply be copied to your reMarkable and opened.
For the latest information about supported formats and importing files, see the official reMarkable documentation.
Why can't I open Kindle books directly on reMarkable?
Kindle ebooks may use Amazon's Kindle-specific formats and DRM protection. reMarkable does not support Kindle DRM or the Kindle app, so copying a Kindle ebook file directly to your reMarkable will not necessarily make it readable.
If you are authorized to convert the Kindle book for your own use, you can convert it to a supported format such as EPUB or PDF and then import the converted file to your reMarkable.
Can you read Kindle books on reMarkable 2?
Yes, but not directly. reMarkable 2 does not support the Kindle app or DRM-protected Kindle ebooks. If you have a compatible Kindle book in a format that can be converted, you can convert it to EPUB or PDF and then transfer it to your reMarkable 2.
Can you read Kindle books on reMarkable Paper Pro?
The same basic limitation applies to reMarkable Paper Pro. You cannot install the Kindle app and access your Amazon Kindle library directly on the device. Instead, use a supported EPUB or PDF file that can be imported to your reMarkable.
Part 2. How to Read Kindle Books on reMarkable
Now that you know the answer to "Can I read Kindle books on reMarkable?", let's look at the easiest way to get a Kindle book onto your reMarkable.
The basic process is simple: download the Kindle book, convert it to EPUB or PDF, and transfer the converted file to reMarkable.
There isn't an official way to install the Kindle app on a reMarkable tablet. Fortunately, if you have a Kindle book that are drm-free, you can download epub or pdf from Amazon website. If your kindle books are drm-protected , you can use Epubor Ultimate to convert it to a reMarkable-supported format.
Step 1 Download and run Epubor Ultimate on your computer.
Step 2 Download Kindle books to your computer.
First, download the Kindle books you want to read on your reMarkable to your Windows PC or Mac using a supported Kindle app. Make sure the books can be opened normally in the Kindle app before continuing.
Kindle app versions and download methods can change over time. If Epubor Ultimate does not detect your Kindle books, make sure you are using a currently supported Kindle app and the latest version of Epubor Ultimate.

Step 3 Convert Kindle books to EPUB or PDF with Epubor Ultimate.
Open Epubor Ultimate. The Kindle books downloaded to your computer can be automatically detected and displayed in the left panel under the "Kindle" tab.
Simply drag and drop the Kindle books from the left panel to the right side. From the output format menu, choose EPUB or PDF, then start the conversion.

After the conversion is completed, a "Succeeded" message will appear next to the converted title. Click it or click the blue folder icon at the bottom-right to locate the converted Kindle book on your computer.

Step 4 Transfer the converted Kindle book to reMarkable.
Once you have a compatible EPUB or PDF file, import it into your reMarkable using the reMarkable desktop app, web app, mobile app, or USB transfer.
With the reMarkable desktop app, you can click Import and select the EPUB or PDF file. You can also drag and drop a supported file directly into the app window. The imported file will then sync to your reMarkable device.

After the file has synced to your reMarkable, open it from your files and start reading. You can also annotate supported ebooks and documents directly on your reMarkable.
Epubor Story
I have a Remarkable tablet that I use instead of an iPad and read off of instead of a Kindle E-Reader, simply because I enjoy writing in hand-written notes while I read.
Recently I was looking to add The Chronicles of Narnia series but the book was DRM protected, so I researched how to remove that protection (not to resell, but to read from my personal device while my kids read it on their Kindle Paperwhite devices). And I tried a couple of the other software solutions out there but they didn't work.
Epubor Ultimate was the only software where it seemed to work as it connected directly to my Kindle and had an easy-to-follow dashboard for new users.
I simply had to double click the book that was already in my Kindle on my Mac and it populated in the window on the right, ready to be converted into whatever format I needed for my Remarkable Tablet.
Super easy and it worked! I was able to upload the content to my Remarkable Tablet with ease!
Part 3. Kindle to EPUB or PDF: Which Format Is Better for reMarkable?
If you want to read Kindle books on reMarkable, you may wonder whether you should convert them to EPUB or PDF. Both formats can be imported to reMarkable, but they provide different reading experiences.
| Format | Best for | Main advantage |
|---|---|---|
| EPUB | Novels and text-heavy books | Reflowable text and flexible reading layout |
| Textbooks, illustrated books, and fixed-layout content | Preserves the page layout |
Convert Kindle to EPUB for reMarkable
EPUB is a good choice for most novels and other text-heavy ebooks. Because EPUB is a reflowable ebook format, the text can adapt to the available reading area and text settings on supported reMarkable software.
If your main goal is comfortable reading of a novel and adding handwritten notes, EPUB can be a convenient format to choose.
Convert Kindle to PDF for reMarkable
PDF can be a better choice when the original page layout is important. This can include textbooks, illustrated books, workbooks, books with tables, and other fixed-layout content.
If you want the converted book to retain a page-oriented layout, PDF may be more suitable than EPUB.
Part 4. Frequently Asked Questions About Kindle Books on reMarkable

reMarkable Paper Pro does not provide a native Kindle app. To read a Kindle book on Paper Pro, you need a compatible EPUB or PDF file that can be imported to the device.

Yes. Once you have a supported EPUB or PDF version of the book on your reMarkable, you can read it and add handwritten annotations.
Why won't my EPUB open on reMarkable?
First, make sure the EPUB is not DRM-protected and is a valid EPUB file. If the book still does not display correctly, try deleting it and importing it again through the reMarkable desktop or mobile app. You can also try adjusting the EPUB text and layout settings on your reMarkable.
Should I choose EPUB or PDF for reading Kindle books on reMarkable?
For most novels and text-heavy books, EPUB is a convenient choice because it is reflowable. For textbooks, illustrated books, or books where the original page layout matters, PDF may be a better fit.

Hi,
I used epubor to turn my kindle e-books into epub as well as pdf format to read them on my remarkable 2. It all worked fine, however when I put the newly created epub file on my remarkable it doesn´t show the cover correctly, it just shows a nearly empty box. Pdf works fine. However I would prefer to read my e-books in epub over pdf as the font is bigger and the format is made to be read on a smaller device. But not having the book covers visable really bugs me.
Do you know any way to fix this so that I can view the cover in the epub version on my remarkable as well?
Thanks!!
Thank you for using our software. Please note Epubor software is the paid software with free trial version. So the trial works well on all your books, the licensed version will allow you obtain the whole content of your ebook in its original quality and formatting.
If you have any issue on using this software, please feel free to contact us via support@epubor.com.
Thanks for all the info so far!
Emily
I have the PCMAC_126_Delivery_Error_Upgrade_Mac problem on MacOS Ventura 13.2.1
If Epubor only works with Kindle 1.31.0 then this is going to be a big issue.
This totally worked!! Sure, you need to pay for the license, but so worth it. My Remarkable is now a book reader too which I always wanted!
