Generally speaking, there is no need for us to search for the latest 
kindle software to download because Kindle will send notifications both on Kindle eReaders and Kindle apps. Sometimes, amazon will automatic update the kindle software (as long as you have automatic updates enabled) once there is internet connected. Sometimes, kindle will send notifications when we started the Kindle and then we just need to click the confirm and allow the Kindle to be updated automatically.
Kindle software updates are rolled out in stages. Your device may not receive the update immediately, as Amazon releases it in batches over several weeks. From this list you can find the latest version in time and upgrade your current version without waiting hours or weeks.

New Release of the Kindle for Windows App 2026 June
Amazon releases the new brand app named Kindle for Windows. It's likely the Kindle for PC will stop working next month and we are only allowed to download the Kindle for Windows app from Microsoft Store.

Kindle Store app crashes on installation?
After installation of kindle store app it doesn't open (just flashes and closes) and also i'm using windows 11 without its requirements of tpm, new cpu, secure boot etc., in this case what i should do? Could i use kindle store app without upgrading my pc to the newest models that windows 11 asks for?
No, you are not allowed to use the store kindle app if you don't upgrade your PC. Any ARM-based PC running the x64 Kindle installer may hit this issue. Any Win11 PC without TPM 2.0 won't be allowed to install the new app.
Features and functions are nearly the same as the Kindle for PC app, but the Kindle for Windows app won't allow us to change the Kindle contents location, though the kindle books' format is still KFX.
KFX books downloaded via the Kindle for Windows app are stored at this location by default:
C:\Users\%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Packages\AMZNKindle.AmazonKindleReadingApp_XXXXXX\LocalState\Classic\Content
Note: Kindle for Windows is the modern replacement for Kindle for PC, and the switch is forced — the old app dies June 30, 2026. If you're on a supported version of Windows 10 or Windows 11, download your Kindle books in crackable format before that date!

Amazon also had been packing Kindle for PC desktop version (exe) and Kindle for Mac desktop version (dmg) for many years, but after the Kindle for Mac version 1.40 released, Amazon stopped providing later packages and started to guide customers directly to the App store to download the app version.
Good news is that Amazon still provides the Kindle for PC installer for us. Reading with Kindle PC app on our Windows laptops (larger screen than the app version) is really convenient.

Whenever Amazon releases a newer version of Kindle app, we will see on-screen instructions to download and install it after we tap Check for Updates.
What to do if we want to manaually update the Kindle for PC app? Uninstall the current version first, and then don't forget to delete these foldes if they exist.

How to downgrade and upgrade the current version of Kindle for PC desktop? I personally recommend you uninstall the current app, restart your windows laptop, and then download your desired version (.exe) to finish the installing.
In my own opinion, I always suggesting you to upgrade your app to enjoy the latest upgraded new features (and some times bugs fixed). What to do after downloading?

The Latest Version of Kindle Firmware Download (Kindle eReaders and Fire Tablets)
If your Kindle is connected to Wi-Fi, it will usually download and install updates automatically when it's idle and charging. I mean, the kindle firmware will be automatically updated to the latest version. Kindle will generally send a notification when the update is complete.

Recent updates on March 10, 2026
Amazon is to use a new DRM on Old Kindles. It only seems to affect Kindles running software version 5.16.2.1.1. In other words, you may fail to decrypt your Kindle books even though your kindle firmware is lower than 5.18.5. It looks like Amazon is trying to lockdown older Kindles as well.
I am contacting you about Kindle DRM removal. Amazon is about to deprecate my trusty 2010 Kindle 3 and its AZW3 encryption. I also own two Kindle Paperwhite devices – 6th and 7th generation (2013 or 2015). Both of them used to use KFX, and I was able to apply the latest version of deDRM using the KFX Importer in Calibre on my Apple Silicon Mac. But just recently those Kindles started receiving KFX-ZIP books. I am still able to access those Kindles via USB, and Calibre's KFX Importer loads them into the libryr, but deDRM can't decrypt them. — My question to you is: Is Epubor able to solve this for me?

Identifing your Kindle model: Identify the kindle model is the first step (and essential).
Download the correct file: Different kindle model, different firmware file to be downloaded.
Copy the .bin file: Connect Kindle device to computer, copy the downloaded .bin file to the root directory (not a folder) of Kindle drive.
