New error with Ultimate & Kindle 2.4.0

Question

5/2/2025 6:50:10 PM

Since Amazon's removal of downloading ebooks, I have been able to keep my Windows Kindle program at version 2.4.0 and been successful at downloading my new purchases.
But today, I was unable to download a new book - Pressfield's "A Man at Arms" with the foll error:

"Item not available for this device type. Your Kindle app requires an update to view this content. Click here to download and install the free update."

It appears we may not be able to download some books with 2.4.0.  Do you have a version of Ultimate that will work with a newer Kindle program yet?  I'm using Ultimate 3.0.16.105.

I had the same issue with that title today. I'm not sure why that's happening, because that book came out in 2021 and shouldn't contain the new DRM scheme that Amazon implemented a few weeks back. The only thing I can think of is there must have been an update to the version of the book and the updated version contains the new DRM (hopefully not).

A Man at Arms

Also, to check if perhaps it was because it was a new book, I next tried this book and had the same problem:

Thank you for your feedback. We've checked this book and it cannot be downloaded via old kindle for pc. Do you have a kindle device? If you have a kindle device, please download this book via kindle device and then remove drm with Epubor Ultimate.

I have struck this with every book I have bought from Amazon since the beginning of the month. It is asking me to download the lastest version of Kindle, which EPUBOR doesn't work with. Epubor keeps asking me to go back to Kindle 2.4 version.

I do not have a Kindle device, so I'll need to wait for the update to Epubor Ultimate.

I have just struck this problem with 3 books - 2 books published 29 April 2025 & 1 book published 6 May 2025.
Kindle Error message: Item not available for this device type.
Your Kindle app requires an update to view this content. Click here to download and install the free update (supported OS: Windows 10, Windows 8).
I am using Kindle version 2.4.0 so that I can use Epubor Ultimate.
I don't have a Kindle device so I too will have to wait on a solution from Epubor.

I hit this problem with 3 books today, all published within the last 10 days.  Using Kindle version 2.4.0, it tells me I must update my device to download the titles.

I also tried on my Kindle Paperwhite.  It is currently running 5.18.1, the most recent version.  I can download the titles to my Kindle, but when I try to take the KFX files straight from the Kindle through Epubor via USB, I see an error message failing to convert the KFX files.

I think Epubor may need an update around Amazon's new security.

Don't think there is a current solution.  Had the same issue with Kindle for PC 2.4 not downloading books as discussed earlier.  I also tried attaching my Kindle Paperwhite which had those books on it to my PC via USB while Epubor was loaded, however even though the PC recognized PaperWhite and was able to browse the directory, Epubor DID not recognize the Kindle so that I could run deDrm on them.  Another weird thing is that the books that I could not download show on on the Kindle in the Library screen, but not in the Document directory when browsing it via USB.  Any thoughts anyone?

I acquired a Kindle Oasis and attempted the alternate method of decrypting from the device and failed.

The error is:  Note:Your Kindle device firmware is 5.16.2.1.1! Please follow this guide to download your Kindle books from Amazon website in order to remove DRM.

The link takes me to instructions that aren't applicable.  So until Epubors great programmers can crack the code, we're stuck.

Adding more information to my post above.   Using this guide:

how-to-remove-kindle-drm-on-mac.html

I discovered that the KFX files were in a sub directory of Downloads so that part of the guide in the link was absolutely correct. However the part where I add the KFX files to Epubor for deDRM did not work, the file was accepted but simply never completed (I left the program open for an hour) and then had to force close it.   The lack of USB recognition by Epubor is still correct.  I send my Kindle Paperwhite edition info to you in a separate email.
