What's the difference between soft and hard reset kindle?

While both Soft and Hard Reset are used for troubleshooting and fixing malfunctioning devices, they have their own unique effects on the device.

Restart kindle is also known as soft reset. This "soft" reset restarts the Kindle software, but won't affect any of the documents or books you currently have saved on the device.

Reset Kindle to Factory, also called hard reset, will remove all downloaded and transferred content from your Kindle. You will still be able to download items from the cloud.

In what cases do we need to restart or reset kindle device?

It's easy to restart your Kindle to resolve glitches or other issues. You may need to restart your kindle in the following cases:

^The Kindle screen frozen or unresponsive;

In contrast, hard reset can be useful in case the problems on your device are due to corrupted or malfunctioning files. Hard reset will be suggested in the following cases:

I found my kindle, which was missing for a long time, recharged it but cannot remember the passcode.
What can I do to make it work again?
There is a lot of sentimental feeling atached to the kindle as I got it in hospital helping recovering after heart operation which nearly killed me!
Please help

All of a sudden my kindle paper white switches from home screen (with the tree) then to snow white about every 20 seconds.  the button at the bottom when held makes the green light flash 3 times, then the yellow light 5 times. but nothing changes. Please advise.
