What's the difference between soft and hard reset kindle?
While both Soft and Hard Reset are used for troubleshooting and fixing malfunctioning devices, they have their own unique effects on the device.
Restart kindle is also known as soft reset. This "soft" reset restarts the Kindle software, but won't affect any of the documents or books you currently have saved on the device.
Reset Kindle to Factory, also called hard reset, will remove all downloaded and transferred content from your Kindle. You will still be able to download items from the cloud.

HOW TO COMPLETE THE FACTORY RESET.
Crazy at is seems, after you hold the bottom power button down for 30 or 40 seconds and it goes through part of the factory reset process (showing a tree and progress bar) you are left back at the PIN screen! What you then need to do...
Is key in this crazy pin 111222777 - and then the factory reset completes! Thank you internet, no thank you Kindle product design engineers!
I see hole in bottom and will stick pin in 30 sec
I hope not microphone
