The Right Way to Backup Kindle Books
May I ask you a question: Why do you want to find the file location of your Kindle books? My guess is that most of you want to back up your Kindle books. However, simply copying and pasting the original "My Kindle Content" folder is not the correct way to do this. Why? Because all Kindle books are protected by Kindle DRM, which means you cannot access them without your account authorization.
The correct way to back up your kindle books is removing Kindle DRM to get the DRM-free kindle books. With DRM-free Kindle books, you do not have to worry about computer crash, Amazon account banned issues, books disappeared from Amazon account etc.
To remove DRM from books downloaded via Kindle for PC/MAC, Epubor Ultimate is the most powerful tool you should use to handle kindle books and any other ebooks. With it, you can decrypt Kindle books and convert them to any other formats.
Just drag the kindle books from left column to the right, the Kindle DRM will be removed. Then select the output format and click on "Convert to ...", you can get any ebook format. Super easy, right?

I'm browsing books on Amazon and there is an option to buy the Kindle ereader version of the book. They used to be really cheap for most books, but nowadays they costs more. So I find one I want to buy the digital version of and I click Through to get the digital book, which I assume is DRMed. Now, these books just seem to appear on my Kindle, and on my Kindle for PC. I like them both but would choose Kindle for PC if I had to pick one. How does the book get to my Kindle for Windows PC app or to my Kindle device? Is there a way to choose either? or both? Are there consequences for choosing one over the the other? Seems that Epubor is the way to go, and worth the cost if I can deDRM my books and back them up as stand alone books like the other digital books I have.
And, is there a way to tell if a Kindle book is DRMed? Can I grab it from the library of files and try to open it in another program like Sumatra PDF or even Calibre? Does that prove they are DRM free if they open?
Thanks ahead of time for your thoughts and your work.

I'm trying to copy my Kindle books as a pdf file, which appears to be an option on my Amazon "Manage Your Content and Devices" page. But when I try to use the "Download & transfer via USB" option under the "More Actions" tab, I get the error message, "You do not have any compatible devices registered for this content. Buy a Kindle or get the free Kindle reading app." The thing is, I DO have the Kindle reading app installed on my Mac! And I have it running when I try to use this process.
I even installed the Kindle reading app on an external drive and attached it to my Mac via USB, thinking that maybe the whole "via USB" was the hangup. Nope. Still didn't work.
Any idea as to why I can't use this function?
